STATEMENT FROM THE VETS4PETS SUPPORT OFFICE - 23rd July 2010
PANORAMA DOCUMENTARY ‘IT SHOULDN’T HAPPEN AT A VETS’
Broadcast 9.00pm 22 July 2010
Vets4Pets wishes to reassure its clients that it maintains the highest standards of professional care at all times. We put the well-being of the pet first as part of an open dialogue with the owner at all stages of treatment, and understand that pets are much-loved family members, and treat them as such.
Decisions relating to pet care are made at a local level by the vets themselves, supported by a Professional Services Board, made up of qualified and experienced veterinary surgeons and nurses. Our practice staff are NOT paid on commission, they are paid a normal salary – it is the individual health needs of each pet which guide all clinical decisions, in full consultation with the owner.
Contrary to the allegations made about an entirely separate company in the Panorama program, clinical procedures at Vets4Pets are always carried out by qualified staff, and are properly supervised. We are fully accredited and regulated by the RCVS and strictly adhere to their rules on what tasks can be performed by different members of staff such as nurses and trainees.
We are very proud of the high-quality pet healthcare we provide, based on a simple and transparent charging structure. We operate an open door policy where pet owners are welcome to look around each practice and meet all the staff.
Vets4Pets shares the sympathy and concern expressed today by the RCVS, and their call for an investigation into the allegations made in the program.
We were pleased to see that our participation in the Pet Blood Bank was featured as an example of best practice, where a vital service is provided at the lowest possible cost. Delivering best practice is exactly how we approach all of our pet care.
